Canning Hack: How to Vacuum Seal Mason Jars in our Vacuum Canister Accessories Using your Avid Armor Vacuum Sealer
Posted by Avid Armor on Apr 14th 2021
We all know that Mason Jars are perfect for canning, taking food on the go, salads, overnight oats, and more! And because of how versatile they are, one of the questions we receive a lot is “can you vacuum seal a mason jar?”
The answer is yes you can! Vacuum sealing a mason jar is an easy and quick way to meal prep, or preserve any fruits or vegetables from your garden. Please keep in mind that this is not a substitute for canning, and anything that is perishable will still need to be stored in the fridge or freezer.
There are a few different methods of approaching this canning hack. The first method that we recommend does require that your vacuum sealer has an accessory port, and we recommend using our vacuum canister attachments. The 2nd method requires a chamber vacuum sealer that your mason jar can fit into.
Here’s our easy step by step guide on how to vacuum seal a mason jar using an accessory port, and vacuum canisters. Even if you don't have an Avid Armor vacuum sealer, this hack will work with almost any vacuum sealer that has an accessory port.
- Place the lid on the mason jar and then loosely screw on the outer band
- Place the mason jar into the appropriate sized canister
- Place the lid on the canister
- Rotate the dial on the canister lid to ‘SEAL’
- Attach the vacuum hose to your vacuum sealer and the canister
- Run your ‘canister/accessory’ function on your vacuum sealer
- Once complete, remove the vacuum hose from the the canister
- Rotate the dial on the canister lid to ‘OPEN’ and remove the canister lid.
- Remove the mason jar from the canister and tighten the outer band of the lid.
- Your mason jar will be vacuum sealed and ready for storage.
If you have the USV32 chamber vacuum sealer model, or a different chamber sealer that does not have an accessory hose you can still vacuum seal mason jars, in the chamber of your machine, using some of the same steps. The main difference is that the mason jar will have to be small enough to fit into the vacuum’s chamber, with the lid closed.
Here’s our easy step by step guide on how to vacuum seal a mason jar using a chamber vacuum sealer.
- Place the lid on the mason jar and then loosely screw on the outer band
- Place the mason jar into the chamber sealer
- Shut the lid on the chamber sealer
- Run your ‘auto vac and seal’ function on your vacuum sealer
- Once complete, remove the mason jar from the chamber and tighten the outer band of the lid.
- Your mason jar will be vacuum sealed and ready for storage.
